Hi, I am quite new here and have been a Commodore collector for some time. However, I do have fond memories of the Game and Watches so I thought I might extend into collecting some Game and Watches as well... just bid on my first one, a boxed Snoopy Tennis. :)

However, I then came across this:

NEW CARDBOARD BOX W/MANUAL FOR NINTENDO GAME&WATCH EGG

How much of a problem is this for a collector? I mean these days people try to inflate prices on anything and it seems a good boxed G&W goes for at least double the price of an unboxed one. How hard is it to spot these counterfeit boxes among the originals?

Hello johncl and welcome to the forum :welcome:

It's nice to see a new collector here. Will you go for all 60 Game&Watch games?

Fake items always is a problem. This seller does reproduce many different G&W items, such as boxes, papers, even battery packagings. This really is a problem.

You can avoid to buy from this seller, but you never know if you get one of his fake items through another seller who bought the items earlier.

I think the boxes are easy to spot. They do look different, mostly regarding the flaps or the game pictured on the box.

PS: Sorry for the delayed reply, I was not much around last few days.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Yes, I remember these games with fond memories and was very excited to find a thriving collectors interest in these. As my main focus is my Commodore collection I will probably just pick up one G&W title now and then, preferrably boxed for the collectors value.

I guess in most cases I will get games with boxes that has some wear, so I guess these "brand new" items are out of the question then for a while.

I noticed that some G&W are being sold brand new on ebay, like Black Jack. Are these original old stock or remakes that Nintendo has done recently?

There are still many brand new ones out there, mostly Black Jack, Donkey Kong Hockey and Donkey Kong 3. They are from old stocks. I've never heard of that Nintendo did produce more G&W after 1991.

If you're very lucky you still can find G&W in (old) toy stores. About two years ago I did find DK Hockey, DK 3, DK Boxing and a Squish in a toy store just around the corner... all brand new of course :bounce:

But I've checked many toy stores since then and did never find anymore games... :-( (
