I noted that there are some Ebay members who have left their feedback comments private particularly when they have many negative feedbacks.

A typical example can be seen below.

I have always wonder what is their motive for doing so. Eveyone still can see the no. of negative feedbacks they have accumulated so far.

What do you think, ppl?

Just wondering why you have "singled out" this excellent ebayer (12- out of almost 3000+)when there are clearly 1000 times worse ebay sellers out there & plenty that keep there feedback private?

Cheers, TBW.

damian2272,

If he is an excellent ebayer like you claimed then all the more he should make his feedback ratings PUBLIC.

Are you an excellent ebayer too? Do you keep your feedback rating private?

Cheers

Is it not a persons OWN prerogative to do as they please, as long as it doesn't impose/oppose the rules & others? Clearly this is true, as you have taken your own prerogative to start this thread.

Is he breaking any eBay rules by leaving his feedback private?

Also, if he was such a terrible seller, why would people keep buying off him?

Would it be possible that you have some problem with this seller? If so, why not just avoid/ignore their auctions, instead of "slinging mud"?

Also, I thought this was a poll...where people give their opinions to an asked question. In your response to my first response, instead of generalising about ebay sellers & feedback, you personalise it, which is sure to ruffle some feathers amongst people.

So, if I was to decide to change my feedback to private, would I become a "bad" seller? Curious?

damian2272,

If you choose to read the thread decription properly it says "Let's discuss about Ebay feedback".

I merely wanted to find out why did some ebayers choose to keep their feedback ratings private.

Maybe I should ask you "why didnt you keep your feedback ratings private"?

In any case, let me answer your questions:

1. Is he breaking any eBay rules by leaving his feedback private?

Of course not. Did someone accuse him of doing that?

2. Also, if he was such a terrible seller, why would people keep buying off him?

I cant answer this as it is very subjective. But fact shows he did have NEGATIVE feedbacks.

Anyway thanks for expressing your opinions 8)

No problems. Maybe next time, the best thing to do might be to ask the seller themselves, instead of speculation & heresay. You would then have a definite CORRECT answer & not someone elses opinion, which could be biased (yes, I know that does go both ways).

Concerning christof_007 feedback beeing kept private, there is a good reason...

There's a buyer that used to buy wome of his items only to put neg feedback. He will put his feedback public as soon as ebay will solve the problem.

anyway .. my opinion is that a private feedback is not a good thing on a seller point of view... we could never know if the feedback is fake or not...

another thing that is more strange is that in some countries (such as germany), there are national law that makes profiles private => impossible to see some info about a seller/buyer....

Ahh Yes, the good old privacy laws..... you would think if you sign up for ebay, and give your details so buyers can get the information it would be ok....
