The website of Nintendo Japan contains an interview with Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo and some of the early developers of the Game&Watch games. Unfortunately the interview is in Japanese only.
But at least there are some very interesting pictures of a memo pad, showing early development sketches of some Game&Watch games!
Update: Meanwhile there is an English translation available in a forum!
If you look closely, you'll see sketches and graphics of following games: Chef, Manhole, Fire, Octopus. The sketches on the first picture are very interesting. Obviously there were some ideas around who never made it into development.
One of the sketches shows a woman sitting on a table, another one the head of a bird trying to eat worms or inchworm or something similar. These sketches seem to be precursors of the game Chef FP-24.
As mentioned before, the interview is in Japanese. So, I have no idea what was said. Maybe one of you speaks Japanese and is into translating the interview?
