 | Supercade: A Visual History of the Videogame Age 1971-1984 |
|

|
Recently I ordered Supercade from Amazon, as a paperback the first thing that springs to mind is, what a huge heavy book. I personally think this book should have been a hardcover.
My initial impression looking at the book was it's to visual and lots of space is wasted with unnecessary pictures. But then it dawned on me the book is a "Visual History" |
|
Once I finally had some time to sit down and read the book, I found it very informative with what is essentially the history from the birth of the "computer game".
Even as a handheld collector I still found the information interesting. For a visual book there is still quite a lot of information in the book in written form and it has been very well researched, particularly for information relating to the late 1960's and early 1970's.
There is little information about Nintendo Game and Watch, but there is quite a lot of general information about the coin operated machines that influenced the development of the G&W series, as well as the late 1970 and early 1980 home TV based systems, with such games as Pong.
I found it quite enjoyable to read the history of companies such as Atari and many a memory came flooding back and I basked in the colourful pictures including Moon Patrol, Asteroids and of course Pac man. 7/10. |

 | MINT Pokka Mario |
 |
Not one but 2, Yes this lucky person managed to somehow stumble onto 2 rare Pokka Mario's. Did they originally come from yahoo in Japan? who knows, but it will certainly be interesting to see how high they will fetch. |
|
Theres no doubt that the Pokka Mario is rare, but at the same time it's only a prize product, do we as collectors place to much value in it's rarity because of the pokka logo?, or is it because it was done so well by pokka, with the nice wrapping paper, custom box and professionally modified game?
On the other hand you have the Dove Turtle Bridge, probably the worst modified game for promotional purposes.

 | What a month for PS |
 |
What a fantastic few months it has been for Pocketsize games. Recently we have seen Octopus and Parachute, both very rare. Infact most collectors are saying that this is only the second, possibly the third time that Octopus has been seen on eBay. |
|
These 2 great items have only been the tip of the iceberg with Mickey Mouse, Mario Bros, Snoopy, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2 and Pinball appearing in recent months as well.

 | FRAM Popeye |
 | FIRST TIME SPOTTED: FRAM POPEYE
Fram appears to be a company that manufactures air filters. The slogan on the top of the game "Les filtres les plus vendus au monde", translates as roughly "the most sold filter in the world". I have no idea why a company dealing in air filters would want to promote themselves on a G&W, but it was in the 80's. Fram is still around, and their website is: http://www.fram.com/

I must admit being an Australian I can remember purchasing many an ice cream during the 80's.
